CATERING DURING THE EVACUATION
At the beginning of the full-scale invasion, when Ukrainian railroad workers became one of the key pillars of the evacuation, it was the youth who became the driving force that helped to hold the rear.
Without any orders, simply on their own initiative, youth activists of the trade union in different regions of the country joined in organizing meals for train crews and passengers of evacuation flights. This was a response to the reality that evacuation trains ran around the clock, in difficult conditions, often without replacement staff and the possibility of adequate rest. The train crews were working to the point of exhaustion, and the passengers, including many children, the elderly and the wounded, needed the most basic necessities.
This assistance continued until systemic decisions were made to provide centralized food supplies for the railway workers and evacuees.
We are proud of everyone who held the line in those first days and weeks where it mattered most – on the platforms, in the depot, in the canteens, and in the cars. This example of cohesion and humanity will forever remain a part of the modern history of Ukrainian railways.
