CLEAN-UPS: ECOLOGY STARTS WITH ACTION
During 2023-2024, the Youth Council of the Trade union of Railwayman and transport construction workers of Ukraine, together with JSC “Ukrainian railway” and the All-Ukrainian Youth Movement Let’s do it, Ukraine, implemented a large-scale eco-project that combined information campaigns, educational events and practical environmental actions.
“Eco-conscious together!” – environmental education in every carriage
A key event was the “Eco-conscious together!” campaign in October 2023, which featured information posters with tips on eco-conscious behavior in passenger cars across Ukraine. The active information campaign encouraged passengers to be responsible when traveling: sort waste, use reusable items, save resources, and even digitally clean their gadgets.
Passengers could join the flash mob by taking photos with posters and posting them on social media with the hashtags #ecoconscioustogether and #letsdoitukraine, demonstrating a personal example of eco-conscious behavior. According to Kateryna Izmailova, Head of the Union’s Youth Council, this initiative not only promotes eco-friendly habits, but also unites railroad workers and passengers in a common cause of environmental protection.

Traditional spring and autumn clean-ups organized by the Union’s Youth Council in cooperation with JSC “Ukrainian railway” and public activists became a logical continuation of the information campaign. Railroad employees, union members and their families cleaned up their workplaces, children’s and adult health centers, railroad forests and parks. Often, such events are organized as family events, where parents and children together with their children set the example of caring for the environment.
Webinars and online education: from zero waste to corporate responsibility
In 2024, the Youth Council continued its eco-education work through online webinars on zero waste, waste filtration, energy efficiency, and practical aspects of corporate environmental responsibility at JSC “Ukrainian railway”. The participants learned:
- where to find up-to-date statistics on environmental pollution;
- how simple daily actions can help reduce the negative impact on the environment;
- how these approaches can be scaled up in corporate environments.
Through such comprehensive measures – from information campaigns to real actions – the Youth Council of the Trade union of Railwayman and transport construction workers of Ukraine of Ukraine demonstrates that environmental awareness is not only about big slogans, but also about systematic work, unity in actions and responsibility to future generations. Involvement of young people in the environmental movement, education among JSC “Ukrainian railway” employees and joint projects with Let’s do it, Ukraine are a contribution to a clean, safe and sustainable Ukraine.
